Once a sleepy coal town, Midlothian, Virginia has managed to maintain its quaint historical charm all the while growing.
Historically, Midlothian, Virginia was founded in 1703. The early settlers mined the first production of coal in the United States. The production helped to arm patriots during the US Revolution moving shells north for use by the First Continental Army. It is in the county of Chesterfield, just south of Richmond.

Seventy-eight percent of the residents are white, 9 percent are black, almost 5 percent are Asian, and Hispanics are at 4 percent.
A good academic backbone is important and the schools here have a 97 to 99 percent high school graduation rate, as well as 38 to 47 percent of the students being prepared to enter college. Focus is also placed on science and math with specialty programs to those who quality. Additionally, there is the Chesterfield Health and Science academy curriculum, pre-engineering, mass communications, visual and performing arts, leadership and international relations, humanities, Spanish immersions.
For the young working couple who are also parents, there are a variety of pre-school choices for your youngster. They include The Goddard School, Primrose School at Ironbrige Corner, the Chester Presbyterian Pre-School, and Childtime. Of course, the public school system also offers Head Start programs throughout the school districts.
A 20-minute ride will place you in Richmond with quick access to the interstates 95 and 295, as well as Route 66.
Located in Chesterfield County, Virginia, there are many tourist and historic attractions to visit. For instance, the Chesterfield Railroad in Midlothian or The John Marshall House historic house museum and National Historic Landmark in Richmond.
